Titan's Young to Visit "Mama Mac" on Anniversary of McNair's Death
Nashville, TN - Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young will travel to Mississippi on July 4th to visit with the late Steve McNair's mother, marking a year since McNair was murdered by Sahel Kazemi, who then committed suicide.
"I'm gonna go out to Mama Mac's house,'' Young told the Tennessean. "I'm gonna go out there and spend the weekend with Mama Mac in Mississippi.
"It's the one-year anniversary for Steve not being here. It's gonna be a sad moment, but we're gonna eat some barbecue and celebrate the life of Steve McNair, the things he put in my life and his family's life.''
Earlier in the month, a Davidson County Grand Jury declind to re-open the investigation into McNair's death.
Davidson County District Attorney Torry Johnson said on June 18th that theories relating to the McNair investigation publicly espoused by certain individuals are not backed up by facts.
“As these theories have been suggested, any necessary police work has been done to follow up,” Johnson said. “But each time, those views have proven to be wholly without merit, or contained a misrepresentation of the facts.”
Investigators from the District Attorney’s Office have been involved with the case and received regular police updates since last July 4. The investigative file was thoroughly reviewed by General Johnson and his staff, who also reached the murder-suicide conclusion.
“While our office is always open to review relevant information or reexamine evidence on closed cases, so far nothing we have seen can refute the fact that anyone other than Sahel Kazemi fired those shots,” Johnson said.
Vince Young was mentored by the late Steve McNair for many years, dating back to attending McNair's football camp in his early years growing up. At McNair's funeral almost a year ago, Young pledged to the late Titan's sons Trenton and Tyler that he would always "be there for them."
Young, in September, honored McNair by attending a father/student breakfast with the two boys.
Most recently, Young brought the Titans back to an almost reasonable standing in the 2009-10 season, winning 5 straight games following a disappointing 0-6 start with Kerry Collins as starting QB. Young capped the season winning 8 out of 10 starts, earning a Sporting News nod for Comeback Player of the Year.
