Jessica Lanell Matlock and Melvin James Davey, III were united in marriage on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 5:30 in the evening at Pickwick Pines Resort, Iuka, Mississippi.
The double-ring ceremony was performed by Reverend Allen Joslyn of Murfreesboro. Christina Torres served as liturgist. Music was provided by John Simmons and Meghan Arnold. Bonnie Blanton, aunt of the bride, and Kristy Bennett, cousin of the bride, were the wedding coordinators.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Matlock of Savannah. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin J. Davey, Jr. of Adamsville. Sunflowers and red gerbera daisies decorated the fence leading to the outdoor ceremony. The entrance was adorned with candelabras and fall garland. Shepherd’s hooks holding lanterns in buckets of mums lined the aisle leading to the steps of the porch where the ceremony took place. Red sashes were on the chairs. The porch was decorated with a backdrop of lattice work and fall garland. Mums and a basket of fall greenery surrounded the unity candle. Single candelabras and filigree baskets with candles accented each side of the lattice work.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore a strapless ivory A-line wedding gown by Watters, made of silk shantung adorned with horizontal lace appliqués and a sweep train. An ivory satin sash attached by a silver and crystal broach belonging to the bride’s great-great-grandmother accented the waist.
The bride wore her mother’s fingertip veil trimmed in lace and attached with a brilliant flower comb of Swarovski crystals and silver. She carried a bouquet of circus roses and red gerbera daisies embellished with clear crystal sprays and wrapped in ivory satin ribbon. Attending the bride were, Laura Lovell, Maid of Honor, Brittany Jones, Matron of Honor and bridesmaid Ashley Matlock, cousin of the bride. Each wore a red knee-length dress and carried a bouquet of sunflowers and red hypericum wrapped in red satin ribbon.
Hanna Davey, cousin of the groom, attended the guest register. The groom was dressed in a black tuxedo with an ivory shirt, vest and tie accented with a circus rose boutonnière. Justin Cooper served as best man. Other groomsmen were Jake Robertson and Daniel Matlock, brother of the bride. Each wore black tuxedoes with ivory shirts, red vest and tie along with a circus rose boutonniere.
Ushers were Ryan Matlock and Austin Matlock, cousins of the bride, Taylor Davey, cousin of the groom and Rodney West. Each wore khaki pants, ivory shirt, red tie and black jacket with circus rose boutonniere Hannah Whitfield and Lyla Smallwood, cousins of the bride, were flowers girls and wore ivory tea length dresses with red satin sashes.
The ring barrier was Hank Smallwood, cousin of the bride. He wore a black suit, ivory shirt, red tie and circus rose boutonniere. The bride’s mother wore a tea length dress in champagne with ruched waistline and beaded lace jacket.
The groom’s mother wore a tea length dress in taupe with beading on the bodice and matching jacket. Each carried a bouquet of circus roses. Parents of the bride hosted a reception in the Lodge. Guests entered through French doors decorated with fall wreaths. Tables were adorned with white tablecloths, red topper and red sashes on each chair. Centerpieces included hurricane vases containing candles and acorns and arrangements of sunflowers and red gerbera daisies. Ceramic pumpkins and votive candles with the couple’s names, wedding date and a fall leaf motif were used as accents. Floating lights accented the pool.
The focal point of the buffet was an arrangement of sunflowers, red gerbera daisies, and circus roses in a tall cylinder vase filled with red apples placed in front of a beautiful rock fireplace. Guests were served a selection of pork tenderloin and chicken tenders with a variety of vegetables, fruit and cheese to chose from. The couple’s grandmothers made pecan, pumpkin and apple pies. Jars of homemade jelly were given as wedding favors.
The bride’s cake was a square three tiered carrot cake with cream cheese icing displayed on a silver plateau. Each tier was separated by brown fondant ribbon and accented with fondant leaves, acorns and two small squirrels dressed as the bride and groom. A figurine of the couple playing in leaves topped the cake. The groom’s cake was a single layer chocolate cake displayed on a footed mirror and decorated to resemble the Titans football field. A figurine of the bride and groom in Titans uniforms topped the cake. During the reception, guests were entertained by The Party Authority of Florence, Alabama. The bride and groom’s first dance was to Then. The father/daughter dance was to a medley of songs including You’re Gonna Miss This, My Girl and She’s a lady. The mother/son dance was to A Mother’s Song.
The groom’s parents hosted a Titans themed rehearsal dinner at Pickwick Pines activity center. Guests were served barbeque with all the trimmings and homemade desserts. Out of town guests attended from Chattanooga, LaVergne, Memphis, Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Smyrna, Tennessee , Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi and Wisconsin.
The newlyweds honeymooned at Grand Lido Resort in Negril, Jamaica and will make their home in Nashville.
